Cambridge Wine Merchants Pop-Ups at #EatCam15

May 7, 2015

Announcing… #EatCWM!

Throughout the festival, take your eating experience to a new level with a series of street food pop ups at Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cherry Hinton Road, alongside informal wine tastings by Alice Archer specially designed with the food in mind.

In addition to some mind-blowing booze and food matches, there’ll be a different beer and gin on special offer each night. The newly expanded tasting room at Cherry Hinton Road’s Wine Bar provides seating for up to 60 people inside, and if the sun’s out there’ll be seating outside too so you can watch the street food traders in action whilst you wait for your supper.

Here’s Alice’s take on the delicious pop-ups she’s got lined up for us during Eat Cambridge… Get them in your diary now, and follow Alice on Twitter for tasting notes and teasers: @ArcherAlice!

Wednesday 13th May

Food: The Olive and The Pea

Wines: A cruise of the Mediterranean coastline

Branch out from the mainstream with eclectic wines from Catalonia, Roussillon, Sardinia, Sicily, and maybe even Lebanon.

Thursday 14th May

Food: Steak and Honour

Wines: Rioja or not – Tempranillo and Grenache around the world

Grab a Steak and Honour burger, and try to pick out the Rioja amongst imitators from the world over in a session based around two of the most robust grape varieties.

Friday 15th May

Food: Jalan Jalan

Wines: New Wave Spanish wine

Jump away from old school Riojas, and taste some cutting edge wines from throughout Spain, from unheard of grape varieties, to natural wine making, along with exciting south east Asian cuisine from Jalan Jalan.

Saturday 16th May

Food: GoGo Gogi Gui

Wines: South American specialities

A new face for us, GoGo Gogi Gui’s Korean burgers. Ever tried kimchi and Carmenere? Well, now’s the time.

Wednesday 20th May

Food: The Olive and The Pea

Wines: Fortified Wines

A whistle stop tour of the fantastic worlds of Sherry, Madeira, and Port, and the remarkable food pairing potential they give.

Thursday 21st May

Food: Steak and Honour

Wines: Pinot Noir, ancient and modern

Pinot Noir. Arguably the noblest of red grape varieties, but it has many disguises: from old school burgundy, through eastern Europe, to the USA, South Africa, Australia, and the ubiquitous New Zealand.

Friday 22nd May

Food: Jalan Jalan

Wines: Aromatics

A sense sensation, when wine meets perfume. Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, to name but a few. We’ll be sampling some of the most evocative, opulent wines from our range.

Saturday 23rd May – unwind after the Main Event

Food: TBC – watch this space for something special!

Wines: As above… 😉
